Hamilton Airport (airport code: YHM), officially named Hamilton International Airport, is technically located in Mount Hope - just on the outskirts of Hamilton, Ontario. Hamilton is conveniently located for visitors to the region who would like to visit Niagara Falls and / or Toronto as it is about equal distance to both places.

1. Why Would You Fly in or out of Hamilton Airport

Hamilton is located between Niagara Falls (or Niagara-on-the-Lake) and Toronto and only about 20 minutes from wine country.

Airfares to Hamilton may be cheaper than to Toronto's Pearson International Airport. (Of course, you're ability to land at Hamilton depends on where you're coming from or what airline you're flying). In addition, parking is cheaper at Hamilton Airport.

Another advantage to flying into Hamilton is that its airport is smaller and easier to get around - everything from customs and getting your luggage to renting a car will be faster.

Hamilton Airport also offers easy highway access directly across the street. From Hamilton, you're an hour's drive from Toronto and a little more than that from Niagara Falls and Buffalo.

2. What Airlines Fly in and out of Hamilton Airport?

Scheduled passenger service is provided by Flyglobespan and WestJet Airlines. Air Canada stopped service to Hamilton in summer 2008.

WestJet offers service between more than 20 Canadian destinations and several in the U.S. - mostly southern, warm-weather cities.

Flyglobespan is a web-based discount airline offering service to several destinations in the U.K. and Ireland, including London (Gatwick), Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin.

Sunquest and Transat Holidays operate winter charters from Hamilton International Airport.

Duty free shopping is available at the airport for those on an international or transborder flight.

Right next door to the Hamilton International Airport is the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, which features aircraft used by Canadians or Canada's Military from the beginning of World War II to the present. The museum offers many opportunities for visitors to interact with the exhibits, including flight combat simulators.

Avis, Hertz and National car rentals have counters located directly across from Domestic Arrivals inside the Air Terminal Building.

Hamilton has a number of taxi companies that will have cabs waiting out front of the airport. A cab from the airport to downtown Hamilton will cost about CAN$25-$30 with a tip.
If you're on a strict budget, Blue Line taxi will take you to the bus station (about 5 mins away) where you can pick up a bus to downtown Hamilton. This service is offered Mon - Sat, from 6 am to 7 pm.
