About 20,000 people live in the town that is technically part of the greater Hamilton area. Dundas, however, has retained quite a separate identity despite being amalgamated by Hamilton, in part because of its geographical position in a valley and surrounded by much green space.
Downtown Dundas is still thriving, with many restaurants, boutiques and businesses many of which are housed in well-preserved 19th century architecture.
On April 3rd, 2010, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman named Dundas the winner of the 2010 Kraft Hockeyville competition. The community will receive CDN$100,000 in arena upgrades and host an NHL pre-season game between the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres prior to the 2010-11 season.
