Thanksgiving Canadian Style
Like our U.S. friends to the south, Canadians give thanks once a year by gathering with friends and family and gorging themselves on turkey. Unlike in the U.S., Canadians observe Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October.
Not to ruffle any feathers, but I have to say I think the Canadian holiday is better timed: Canadian Thanksgiving in October is not so close to Christmas, so you don't get holiday burnout, and the autumn weather is at its finest in terms of weather and fall foliage viewing.

I agree, I’m actually tired of turkey by the time Christmas rolls around down here south of your border. If only I had some Canadian friends who would invite us over for their holiday, maybe I could skip our own!
I agree that the Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday is at a great time of year. I am fortunate enough to have Canadian friends and have actually celebrated Thanksgiving in Canada & it was awesome. My friends are of Polish/Ukranian heritage and having some of that culture in our Thanksgiving celebration in Canada was wonderful. THe colors of the fall foliage are much more brilliant at Canadian Thanksgiving time than they are here in the States. By the time our Thanksgiving rolls around (which is my fav holiday) most of the foliage has already fallen to the ground. So Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Canadian neighbors to the north!!!
I agree! I am Canadian but have lived in the US for quite some time. I always invite my American friends & family over that weekend for a delicious meal and gathering! My family usually comes down from Canada for American Thanksgiving to go shopping. October is much better than November – a break is needed between such large holidays!
I love the idea of U.S. Canada Thanksgiving exchange. I have visited the States a couple of times for American Thanksgiving and nothing beats the sales at Target on Black Friday. Does that make me a shallow person?
