Winter Has Officially Started. No Kidding.

Sunday December 21, 2008
Right across Canada, Canadians are getting a blast of snow, ice and other winter weather on this, the official first day of winter. Even the usually milder West Coast, including Vancouver and Victoria, has been hit with sub-zero conditions.

More than 300 flights were cancelled at the country's busiest airport, Toronto Pearson, with delays at other busy airports like Calgary.

The Greater Toronto Area was buried in 20 cm of snow with some regions, like the one outside of my window in Hamilton, getting 30 cm (almost 12 inches).

Travellers to and within Canada are advised to check their flights (or train and bus status, for that matter) before heading out the door to ensure they're still scheduled for departure.

My parents were born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and I was born in the village of Bancroft, Ontario. We moved to Southern California when I was 10. Snow here is only in the mountains.

Thanks Dad
